Use custom descriptions to clearly communicate the details of each product or service in a contract or proposal.
Why Add Custom Descriptions? #
Custom line item descriptions help you clarify what each product or service includes—especially useful when bundling offerings or tailoring proposals to client-specific needs. Rather than relying on standard naming conventions, this feature lets you specify exactly what’s being sold. It’s a best practice for improving transparency, simplifying communication, and avoiding confusion during billing or reporting.
Whether you're including third-party production costs, special creative notes, or ad specs, line item descriptions give you the flexibility to communicate clearly, all while keeping your proposals organized and client-friendly.
Creating a Custom Line Item Description #
To start, navigate to Sales from the left-hand menu and click the Contracts tab. Locate the proposal you want to update, then click View. Once inside the proposal, click the Edit button to open the contract editing screen.
In the contract editor, you’ll see the Add Products or Packages panel. Begin by adding the products you want to include in your proposal. For each product, fill in the relevant details just as you would when booking a standard ad or deliverable.
When you're ready to group items, check the box next to each product you want to include in the package. Once you've selected two or more items, the +Package button will appear. Click it to begin grouping your selected products into a single unit.
You’ll then be prompted to enter a Package Name. This is where you can get specific: describe the package in a way that makes sense for both internal teams and the client. Once you're satisfied with the name, click Save Package on the right-hand side to finalize it.
Your selected line items will now appear as a single grouped package on the proposal. This not only cleans up the proposal visually but also keeps your sales and delivery teams aligned on what’s included.
Tip: Use descriptive package names like Spring Campaign Bundle or Video + Social Starter Kit so clients immediately understand what’s inside each grouping.
