To provide an extra layer of account security, MediaOS now supports time-based one-time passcodes (TOTP) for two-factor authentication. This optional feature is designed to help protect your login credentials—especially when accessing MediaOS from new or unfamiliar networks.
Note: You must use a password manager or authentication app to enable TOTP. Common options include Google Authenticator, Authy, Duo Mobile, 1Password, LastPass, and Microsoft Authenticator.
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication #
To set up two-factor authentication, click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen and select Personal Settings. On the profile page, look for the orange button labeled Setup Two-Factor Authentication and click it to begin.
You’ll be redirected to a new screen labeled Configure Two-Factor Authentication, where a QR code will appear on the left side of the page.
Open your preferred authentication app on your mobile device and tap the “+” icon (or the “Scan QR code” option) to add a new account. Use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code displayed in MediaOS. Once scanned, your app will generate a 6-digit verification code.
Enter the code into the verification field on the MediaOS setup page. If the code is accepted, you’ll see a confirmation message indicating that Two-Factor Authentication has been successfully activated.
Additional Notes on TOTP #
- TOTP is optional—it’s not required to use MediaOS but is strongly recommended for enhanced security.
- You will only be prompted for a verification code the first time logging in from a new IP address on the account.
- Admins can view TOTP status for all users by navigating to the Users section under System Settings.
Enabling TOTP ensures that only authorized users can access your account—even if a password is compromised.
